Spring 2020: The Song of Names

Originally screened: March 4, 2020

Director: François Girard

Country: Canada

Runtime: 114 minutes

Spanning three decades, this story begins with a separation: Dovidl (Luke Doyle), a violin prodigy orphaned by the Holocaust, leaves behind the stage that is set and waiting for his debut, despite the support of an affluent adopted family. Martin (Tim Roth), his adopted brother, never understands why — spurred on, as an adult, to get to the bottom of what he missed, and why Dovidl (played as an adult by Clive Owen) never reconnected, what he finds contains mysteries that reach far beyond just two people.
