Set during WWII, but told in the period style of modern Marseille, this adaptation of Anna Seghers’ “multilayered masterpiece” tells the story of Georg, a European concentration camp escapee (Franz Rogowski). In the French refugee community, he becomes enmeshed in the lives of a desperate young mother, her son, and a mysterious woman named Marie (Paula Beer).
